Grips car was stolen from right in front of my house last night, while we were sitting on the couch in my livingroom, like 5 ft away. He stopped by for just a little while & left his keys on the front seat. About 30 minutes later we hear a car door followed by the skreetch of tires. I looked outside to see which on of my idiot neighbors were being stupid...and the car was gone.
So Blixx & Dave head out in the Jeep to see if they can spot them & run into the cops down the street. As they are explaining things to the officer, Blixx spots the car driving by with at least 4 kids in it. A chase ensues and 2 idiots are caught, but not before they smash the side of the car (his wife's car to be exact) into another vehicle. They also got rid of the rest of Grip's keys...including keys to work trucks, home, HIS car etc. It's an obnoxiously large chunk of keys so we're hoping they pitched them out the window relatively close to the house. I'm heading out with Cass as my bloodhound to try to find them.
I feel violated that a crime like that could happen. Kids stealing cars for a joy ride is the stuff of movies or tv news, not right here. His wife & I were talking this morning about how we both are bad about locking our cars & leave purses in there. Hit a little close to home.
So we go upstairs but neither Bill nor I could get a decent night sleep. I finally drift off, only to be awoken by a LOUD banging on the front door at 2am. Never good.
It's a cop & he's not happy that I keep him outside. Not only am I not going to let a cop into my house without a warrant, but Cass was sleeping & the last thing she needed was to be awoken to the cops. Turns out they were looking for someone else entirely...not there about the car or anything. Dude got all up in my grill too asking who I am, is this my house etc. It's 2am and I'm in my pj's on my front stoop trying to convince a cop that I'm me. I pointed to the mailbox which clearly has my last name on it & all of a sudden he was a nice guy, all sorry to bother me etc.
Cop was looking for a mom to tell her that her son was in jail. I didn't ask the charges but I don't think it was a coincidence. I think the kid was in jail cuz he stole the car & they had my address cuz that's where it happened. I've got to look up the last name the cop gave me & see if it's someone around here. I'm freaked out.
So since Grips no longer has a key to his car he took Red's & I'm chauffer to Red & V. We're heading to soccer in the rain. Woo Hoo!
